Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Arnold delivered a heartfelt message to Lionel Richie during the live broadcast on Thursday, June 25, after the singer was forced to cut his concert short due to illness.
Lionel Richie Falls Ill During Performance
The 77-year-old music icon was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he declared an unexpected 40-minute interval. Shortly after, he concluded the performance prematurely. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, saxophonist Dino Soldo informed the crowd: "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won't be able to continue. Additional information will be available."
Richard Arnold, the entertainment correspondent for ITV's breakfast programme, shared the "worrying news" with viewers at home. He stated: "Yes, just news overnight. Lionel Richie was taken ill during a show last night. The star was performing in Minnesota at the start of this tour with Earth, Wind and Fire. When Lionel announced an unscheduled intermission after 30 minutes, a member of his band came back on stage and announced Lionel wouldn't be returning as he was feeling ill."
GMB Hosts Send Well Wishes
Offering his support to the performer, Arnold added: "According to fans Lionel felt dizzy whilst singing Dancing on the Ceiling and actually sat down on the stage. Obviously, we wish Lionel a speedy recovery. It's the start of a 26 day tour."
He continued: "He's 77-years-old and he frankly looks about 15/20 years younger. Having met him many times, he's a very spirited individual. So hopefully he'll be back on the road soon and feeling the heat of the light. Once again, wishing him all the very best."
Before launching into the entertainment segment, co-host Richard Madeley had noted: "Richard's here with a bit of worrying news."
Details of the Incident
Lionel Richie had performed Three Times A Lady at the piano before announcing the interval. He then left the stage, and his band departed minutes later. A band member returned to inform the audience that Richie could not continue due to feeling unwell. The incident occurred at the start of a scheduled 26-day tour, prompting concern for the singer's health.
