Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice is set to reunite with a host of his colleagues from the hit BBC show in a significant display of unity. This comes a year after he stepped down from the programme following a series of bullying allegations.
A Strictly Reunion on the Dance Floor
The reunion will take place at two major Strictly-themed fan events scheduled for July next year. The gatherings, branded as 'Dancing with the Stars', will be held at the Celtic Manor Resort Hotel & Spa in Newport and the De Vere Beaumont Estate in Old Windsor. It is important to note that these events are not officially affiliated with the BBC.
Despite strict BBC rules normally governing external work linked to the show, it is understood that the current Strictly dancers involved have been cleared by the show's producers to participate. The line-up joining Giovanni includes fan favourites Anton Du Beke, Aljaž Škorjanec, Janette Manrara, Gorka Marquez, Kai Widdrington, Lauren Oakley, and Karen Hauer.
Moving Past a Turbulent Year
Giovanni's participation is particularly poignant given the events of the past year. The 34-year-old Italian dancer left Strictly in the wake of allegations made by his 2023 dance partner, Amanda Abbington. An internal BBC investigation later partially upheld some complaints, though it did not substantiate claims of physical aggression.
Speaking earlier this year, Pernice described feeling utterly isolated, stating he "lost all his friends" and that "nobody wanted to be seen with me." He revealed the profound personal impact, saying, "I felt like the world collapsed... I didn't have anybody around me."
A Show of Support and a Fresh Start
His inclusion in these events signals a powerful show of support from within the Strictly community and cements his enduring popularity with fans. The event brochure promises attendees "three days of spectacular dance showcases" and the chance to learn from the stars, billing it as the "Ultimate 5* Weekend Break" for Strictly enthusiasts.
Throughout the controversy, Giovanni has consistently maintained his position, arguing he was a "strict teacher" who cared deeply about his work, but never a bully. He has expressed relief that the more serious allegations were dismissed, and now, this professional reunion suggests a path forward for the dancer, surrounded once more by his peers.
