Strictly's Gemma and Gorka joke about 'Indecent Proposal' offer
Gemma and Gorka joke about 'Indecent Proposal' offer

Gorka Marquez joked he would say "take her" if faced with an Indecent Proposal-style situation involving fiancée Gemma Atkinson, but quickly insisted he would never sell her for money.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star and his partner discussed the famous 1993 film on their Lost in Translation podcast, weeks after revealing they had been like "passing ships" before he stepped away from the BBC Saturday night show.

A Hypothetical Offer

In the film, Robert Redford plays a multi-millionaire businessman who offers a financially struggling couple, played by Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson, $1 million to spend the night with her. When Gemma asked if Gorka would accept such an offer, he said no, prompting her to quip: "Would you say two million?"

He joked he would ask for half - £500,000 - before landing another surprise. Gemma laughed: "Half the price and take her for a week?" However, Gorka said he wouldn't ask for anything.

"I would be like, 'Mate, take the money, take her, just leave me alone'," he joked before turning serious. "No. Absolutely not. Why would I do that? I don't have the money. I'm always the person that thinks 'I don't have that money', so it's not that I'm losing the money," he said.

A Sweet Promise

As Gemma played devil's advocate, explaining that in the film the couple had lost everything, Gorka made a heartfelt promise. "I'll find my way to [survive]. I'd rather live under the bridge with you, but don't try to sell you for money. Easy money becomes expensive money," he said.

Comparing the proposition to offers the couple receive, he added: "It's a different concept, but you know when you get offer[ed] money to do an interview or a photo shoot and stuff like that and I go like no. I don't have the money. It's good money. Great. I don't have it. So it's not that they're gonna be like, if you don't do the interview, we're gonna take the money from your bank account. I don't have it. [You] don't miss what you've not had. I don't miss it. But to have that money, at the moment you can think, oh, it's good money."

"In the long term, the value of you selling yourself and opening up and whatever is more cost[ly] than having whatever they give you," he pondered.

Life After Strictly

The discussion came less than a month after the Spanish dancer discussed the benefits of stepping away from Strictly with Heat magazine. He told the publication how liberating it was, explaining: "It's nice to have more time together with the children and with Gemma, instead of 'Hi, I'm going to work', or 'Hi, I'm going to the show' like passing ships."

In the same chat, he also opened up about whether the couple would finally tie the knot after almost a decade together. He hinted: "Maybe. Just keep waiting, and we'll see." This isn't the first time Gorka and Gemma have addressed their long engagement, with Gorka admitting on an episode of their podcast: "I don't think I want to get married."
