Gareth Malone's Life with Rarely-Seen Partner Becky: 'Total Nightmare' Ordeal Revealed
Gareth Malone's Life with Rarely-Seen Partner Becky

Gareth Malone, the renowned choirmaster and television personality, has been married to his wife Becky, an English teacher, for over a decade. The couple, who keep their relationship largely out of the spotlight, tied the knot shortly after Malone fronted The Choir: Military Wives in 2011.

Becky's Grounding Influence

In 2012, Malone revealed Becky's candid response to his newfound fame. 'She thinks all the attention I'm getting is a bit silly. She believes her job is to take me down a peg or two, and no one can bring me down to earth as she can,' he told MailOnline. 'When someone gives me a compliment, she'll say: "Please stop! He doesn't need it. He's plenty confident enough."'

Malone has consistently praised his wife's role in his life. 'I talk through every decision I make with my wife. It's great to have a sounding board, a best friend to tell me, "No, you're being an absolute [expletive]!" when it's necessary,' he told MailOnline. 'She approves every song choice, every idea, every outfit, every haircut. Everything.'

A Musical Partnership

Speaking to the Mirror in 2017, Malone shared that Becky 'is used to' his constant singing at home. 'She wouldn't have married me if she hadn't liked it, I guess. She has a very nice voice, and we harmonise and duet,' he said.

Family Life and a 'Total Nightmare'

The couple have three children: Esther, Gilbert, and Dvora. Malone has spoken candidly about the challenges of balancing work and family. He told Radio Times about a 'complete nightmare' when he shared a room with his then-18-month-old while working on musical projects. 'I'd been planning to have a studio built in the garden for three years. I wanted a soundproof music room so that not only would I not disturb the neighbours, but they wouldn't disturb me – kids screaming, people mowing their lawns,' he explained.

Malone is best known for his BAFTA-winning series The Choir and his work with the Military Wives Choir. His other TV credits include Celebrity Escape to the Country, Pitch Battle, The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C, and The Masked Dancer (where he performed as Cactus and was eliminated in week 4). In 2022, he also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, reaching the quarterfinals.
