The Blackpool Barrio Fiesta returns for the first time in ten years this Saturday, July 25, offering a free celebration of Filipino culture on the seafront. Organised by the Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Filipino Bayanihan Community, the event is expected to draw more than 3,000 attendees, making it the largest such festival in the town's history.
What to expect at the fiesta
Taking place on the Tower Headland from 10am, the day begins with a parade featuring Filipino community groups from across the UK. Food stalls will serve traditional dishes like lechon (roast pork), lumpia (spring rolls), and pancit (fried noodles), alongside sweet treats such as halo-halo, a colourful shaved-ice dessert, and tropical ice cream, cakes, and pastries.
The entertainment lineup includes magician Harry Moulding, winner of Britain's Got Talent last year, as well as RuPaul's Drag Race UK stars Zahirah Zapanta and Saki Yew. Comedian Ria Lina, Cordillera UK, Viva Blackpool, and the Filipino Community Dancers will also perform, showcasing traditional styles like bamboo-pole tinikling and the Ifugao dinuyya routine.
Music and activities
Live music comes from The Leon Jones Live Band, the Regular Breaks Band, the FLC Marching Band & Lyre, and local singers. A Zumba session offers attendees a chance to try the dance-fitness craze. Bryan Dulawan, president of the Bayanihan Community, said: "We wanted a day that shows off Filipino culture but feels completely open. Most of us have been in Britain for years. We're British, we're Filipino, and the fiesta is both of those things at once. If you've never tried lechon or seen tinikling danced live, this is the place."
City of Culture bid
The Barrio Fiesta is part of Blackpool's bid to become UK City of Culture 2029, which would coincide with the 150th anniversary of the town's Illuminations.
