Frederick von Mierers: Life, Cult, and Cause of Death

Frederick von Mierers, a controversial figure who claimed to be an extraterrestrial being from the star Arcturus, is the subject of a new HBO documentary series titled Bring Me the Beauties: A Model Cult. The three-part docuseries, directed by Chris Smith, explores how supermodel Hoyt Richards became entangled in a manipulative spiritual group known as Eternal Values.

Early Life and Transformation

Born Freddy Miers in Brooklyn on Christmas Day 1946, von Mierers reinvented himself as a Manhattan socialite and former model. He adopted the persona of an alien 'walk-in' from the star Arcturus, convincing his followers that they were an elite class destined to be rescued by a UFO when the world ended in 1999.

The Cult of Eternal Values

Von Mierers founded Eternal Values, a cult that preyed on wealthy and beautiful individuals. Among its victims was Hoyt Richards, who met von Mierers at age 16 during a Nantucket beach holiday. Richards claims he was exploited out of millions of dollars by the cult leader. The group operated under the guise of a spiritual organization that supposedly launched Richards' modeling career.

Cause of Death

Von Mierers died on 4th February 1990 due to complications from AIDS. He kept his diagnosis secret from his followers, leading some members to believe he had been murdered, as suggested in the documentary. After his death, the cult continued for nearly a decade before disbanding in 1999. Richards' departure from the group is considered a key factor in its dissolution.

The HBO documentary sheds light on the dark underbelly of the fashion industry and the manipulation tactics used by von Mierers. It features interviews with former members and experts, providing a comprehensive look at how the cult operated and its lasting impact on victims.
