An escaped pet skunk has been spotted roaming on a road near a Scottish village, prompting a search by its worried owner. The animal, which is native to the Americas, was filmed scurrying along the B914 towards Saline outside Kelty in Fife on Monday evening. A video of the mammal was shared on social media, quickly drawing attention.
Owner's Plea for Help
The skunk's owner, Logan Carr, took to social media to ask for assistance, writing: "She's mine, trying to look for her now. Escaped out of her enclosure overnight. Any sightings or anything of her, please let me know. I'm worried as she was at the road." The video shows the skunk, known for its ability to spray a liquid with a strong, unpleasant scent from its anal glands, wandering on the road in the dark.
Skunks in the UK
Skunks are not native to the UK in the wild, though they are kept legally as pets and can be found in zoos or wildlife parks. The Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) has confirmed it is aware of the lost pet. The animal welfare charity has urged anyone who spots the animal to get in touch via their website or by phone on 03000 999 999.
Residents in the area are advised to be cautious and report any sightings to the SSPCA. The skunk, which escaped from a nearby property by burrowing out of its enclosure, is believed to be in good health but possibly disoriented.
