Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane has partnered with I Am ALS, an organisation funding research for the incurable neurodegenerative disease, in a poignant Instagram video released Monday — the day after he pulled out of presenting at the 2025 Emmys.
Dane, 52, who publicly revealed his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis in April, said in the video: “I am Eric, an actor, a father, and now a person living with ALS. For over a century, ALS has been incurable and we’re done accepting the status quo.” He called for a billion dollars over the next three years to renew the Act for ALS law and push towards a cure.
Throughout the video, Dane’s speech is noticeably slurred, a common symptom of ALS. Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing increasing muscle paralysis over time. Fans flooded the comment section with support, with one writing: “Sending you so much love Eric.”
Dane, also known for his role in Euphoria, previously revealed he has “one functioning arm.” Over the weekend, he was scheduled to reunite with former Grey's Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams at the Emmys but dropped out ahead of the telecast; the reason for his absence is unknown.
