Emmerdale star Luca Hoyle has confirmed he is returning to the ITV soap as Elliot Windsor after a two-year absence from screens. The actor, who has portrayed the character since 2016, announced the news in a statement shared by the Pendleton School of Theatre on Instagram on Friday, July 17.
Luca Hoyle's Statement on His Return
In the statement, Hoyle said: "After a short break, I am so excited to say that this summer I am back in the studio filming for a new storyline as Elliot Windsor in Emmerdale. It's a role I've been lucky enough to play since 2016, and it's such a privilege to still be part of it. Looking forward to seeing where this next chapter goes."
Hoyle, who is a musical theatre student at the Pendleton School of Theatre, also reflected on his studies: "I have absolutely loved my first year on the Musical Theatre course at Pendleton. I have been lucky enough to be part of both Footloose and The Great British Bake Off Musical, which I have enjoyed every minute of." He added: "All of my peers and teachers are incredibly kind and supportive, and I can't wait to get back in September to start my final year!"
Elliot Windsor's History on Emmerdale
Elliot Windsor is the son of Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Kelly Windsor (Adele Silva). Kelly first brought Elliot to the village in 2011, claiming Jimmy was the father. Jimmy had believed Kelly terminated the pregnancy. After a paternity discussion, Kelly left for America with Elliot, but he later returned to live with Jimmy and his family. Despite residing in the Dales, Elliot has not been seen on screen for two years.
Fan Reactions to the News
Fans have expressed excitement over Hoyle's return. One commented on the Instagram post: "Welcome back, Luca!" Another wrote: "Well done mate!" A third said: "Omg so exciting." The announcement comes after many viewers had been asking about Elliot's absence from the village.
Possible Connection to Jimmy King's Exit
Hoyle's return may coincide with reports that his on-screen father, Jimmy King, is being killed off. A source told The Sun: "Everyone is shocked and it shows that no one is safe from the budget cuts. Bosses are under pressure to cut costs, and sadly, that means popular cast members being told their time is up." The source added: "Once the decision was made that Nick would be leaving, the writers quickly realised his character wouldn't abandon his wife and children, so they had to kill him off." However, Emmerdale has not officially confirmed these reports.
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
