Emma Raducanu was spotted getting cosy with a mystery man just hours after her heartbreaking defeat in the final at Queen's. The British No. 1 suffered a straight-sets 6-0, 7-6 (6) loss to Donna Vekic at the Andy Murray Arena following her remarkable run to the final in Eastbourne.
Yet the heartache of her final defeat and losing nearly half her prize money clearly did little to dampen Raducanu's spirits. On Sunday, she enjoyed some quality time with a potential new flame after being spotted looking besotted in public.
New Companion Revealed
Raducanu was seen at Battersea Park in south-west London with 32-year-old John Friend, who appeared to be far more than his surname implied. Friend, understood to be a PR professional, was spotted walking his dog alongside Raducanu before the pair settled on a park bench together.
Photos appeared to show the couple utterly captivated by one another as they gazed into each other's eyes, laughing and cuddling in what looked like a very intimate moment. There is no official confirmation that the pair are dating, however, with Raducanu yet to address her appearance.
Raducanu has largely kept her romantic life out of the spotlight since her split from billionaire heir Carlo Agostinelli in 2024. However, an onlooker quoted by The Sun claimed the tennis star made no effort to conceal her movements, with Raducanu all smiles despite her final defeat just hours earlier.
Onlooker's Account
"Emma and her man looked like they didn't have a care in the world as they meandered through the crowds," the anonymous observer said. "They looked besotted with one another. You wouldn't have thought that, hours earlier, she'd suffered a defeat on the court. Any disappointment looked like it had evaporated as they cuddled. They certainly didn't seem to be self-conscious of being together and affectionate, and there were plenty of other people around."
Raducanu's Career Journey
Raducanu burst onto the scene in 2021 when she claimed the US Open as a qualifier at just 19 years of age. Since then, she revealed that her parents had steered her away from pursuing relationships due to the impact it could have on her tennis career.
Her performances took a sharp downturn after the pressure to deliver became too overwhelming, compounded by debilitating wrist and ankle injuries that required surgery in 2024. However, Raducanu showed the kind of form that once had her touted as one of the brightest rising talents in women's tennis at Queen's, defeating the likes of Anna Blinkova and 17th seed Sorana Cirstea.
She had not surrendered a single set across her four matches before coming up against Vekic, but ultimately fell at the final hurdle. Speaking after the match, Raducanu said: "Right now it obviously really stings, so I'm just going to try and let myself feel it today - but try and get over it pretty quick."
Recent Successes
Her display at the tournament, combined with her run to the final at the ATP 250 event in Cluj, has seen her climb back into the top 30 in the WTA rankings. That may well be sufficient to secure her a seeding at Wimbledon next month, with Raducanu expressing her satisfaction with her recent displays.
"I haven't really played much this season, but to think I have made two finals so far, which I haven't done in years, it has to be, in a way, celebrated," said Raducanu. "It's a good achievement for me and I'm proud of it."
