More heatwaves and below average rain are expected for Wales as high temperatures remain for the rest of the summer, heading into early autumn. This week across Wales and the rest of the UK will experience further heatwaves with temperatures reaching up to 37°C in London as an amber weather warning has been issued covering parts of southern and eastern England.
Hot temperatures in Wales this week
On Wednesday and Thursday this week in Wales there will be "strong sunshine" and "very hot" temperatures of up to 33°C including in Cardiff, Carmarthen and Wrexham.
The Met Office forecast for the rest of the week states: "Wednesday: Dry with lots of strong sunshine, temperatures rising rapidly during the morning. High level cloud will make the skies a little hazy at times. Feeling very warm and locally hot. Maximum temperature 31°C.
"Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Hot or very hot on Thursday with plenty of strong sunshine. Turning a little fresher and cloudier from Friday with perhaps the odd shower."
Rain expected later in August
After a long period of dry weather and drought in Wales rain could make a resurgence towards the end of August with some "heavy rain" expected across the UK.
From August 16 to August 25 the weather will be changeable with rain in some places towards the beginning of this period before higher pressure brings drier conditions with temperatures to "likely be near normal or slightly above."
Heatwaves possible into September
Heading into September the Met Office has predicted that the UK will see more heatwaves, especially in the south as hot weather returns.
The forecast for August 26 to September 9 states: "High pressure will probably be dominant in the vicinity of the UK during this period, meaning periods of dry weather for many regions.
"However, some more unsettled or changeable interludes are probable at times, bringing showers or some longer spells of rain, although overall rainfall amounts are more likely to be below average than above.
"Temperatures will likely be above average and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south."
