Lee Mack, host of ITV's The 1% Club, halted the show minutes into a repeat episode to question contestant Nathaniel Elder about his unusual collection. The student of computer science and philosophy revealed he collects eyelashes, pulling a small plastic container from his pocket.
Host's reaction
After Nathaniel said he had been collecting the eyelashes for two and a half years, finding them on his face and picking the longer ones, Lee screwed up his face and said: "That is absolutely disgusting." When asked how he could tell they were his own, Nathaniel replied: "A father always knows."
Lee initially thought Nathaniel's father told him, before realising Nathaniel referred to himself as the parent of his own eyelashes. The comedian quipped: "What are you talking about?" and suggested he switch to studying psychology.
Contestant's progress
Nathaniel made it through to the 1% question, joined by three other players, and did not use his pass. One fan shared online: "What a performance from that boy Nathaniel. Didn't even us his pass!"
The final question asked players to count the number of squares in an image. Nathaniel answered incorrectly and missed out on the prize. Martin was the only one to answer correctly with '46' and took home £95,000. The episode aired on ITV2 on August 11 as a repeat of an edition originally broadcast in November last year.
