Ella Rubin and Anne Hathaway: Related? No, but They Played Mother-Daughter
Ella Rubin and Anne Hathaway: Not Related, But Played Mother-Daughter

Ella Rubin, star of the new Prime Video series 'Sterling Point', is often told she looks like Anne Hathaway. The 24-year-old actress from New York plays Annie Jacobson in the teen drama, which follows Annie's life after she inherits her estranged grandfather's island in Canada and uncovers shocking family secrets.

Rubin is known for her roles in 'The Chair' and 'The Girl from Plainville'. Her mother is a talent manager and her sister is a casting director, so she grew up familiar with the entertainment industry.

Are They Related?

The short answer is no, Ella Rubin and Anne Hathaway are not blood relations. However, they did play mother and daughter in the 2024 film 'The Idea of You', where Hathaway starred as Solène Marchand, an art gallery owner, and Rubin played Izzy, Solène's teenage daughter.

Due to their physical likeness, the casting was fitting. Rubin told TODAY about a lesson Hathaway taught her during filming: "(She) really encouraged me to apologize less unnecessarily. This person who's my hero telling me like, this is not only harmful to you personally but also to your work and to the people around you. When you're a leader on a set, you don't want other women especially to feel like that's something that they have to do. And so I really took that with me from someone I trust and respect so much."

Uncanny Resemblance

On the TODAY show, hosts Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer commented on the resemblance. Dreyer said: "Sheinelle and I sat down and... we start staring at you and we're like, 'It makes so much sense that you played Anne Hathaway's daughter.' I mean, the resemblance is uncanny seeing you in person."

In 2024, Rubin spoke to Teen Vogue about being told she could be Hathaway's doppelgänger: "People always told me that I resembled her so I was like, 'Oh, man, this would be awesome.' I just love her so much. I think it would be impossible not to bond with her. She is such a warm, inviting person who's not just interesting but interested, and she makes it incredibly easy to form a relationship because she's so genuinely invested in what you have to say."

Fans have also noted the likeness, with one commenting on Facebook: "Omg! I seriously thought it was her at first!!" Another added: "It's her younger twin!!"

'Sterling Point' is now streaming on Prime Video.
