Elizabeth Hurley is dead — at least in the name of reality television. The actress stars as 'The Deceased' in Channel 4's new series The Inheritance, a campy competition show from the creators of The Traitors. Hurley plays an enigmatic millionaire who has cut her family out of her will, leaving her fortune to 13 strangers who must compete in challenges to win a share of the prize.
At the end of each challenge, contestants who believe they deserve the money put themselves forward. They then make their case to a jury of fellow players, who decide the rightful beneficiary of that day's winnings. The show raises the question of what it takes to get what you deserve in life.
The series is inspired by a forgotten ITV flop, The Divided, but takes the concept of fairness and runs with it. Set in a lavish Dorset manor, the show features Hurley, 13 contestants, and Rob Rinder as Hurley's executor. Rinder, a former criminal barrister known for his daytime TV role, is praised as the show's standout star, bringing sharp wit and commanding presence.
The cast includes a mix of characters, from gamer Zara, who seems determined to make enemies with her self-belief, to Jesse, a disabled student, and a paramedic used to being underpaid. The show is described as the closest contender to The Traitors in recent years, with genuine humour and verbal clashes that make it compelling viewing.
