EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith, who plays serial killer Gray Atkins, is married to Emmerdale star Amy Walsh. The couple met by chance in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing in 2019 and became a couple a year later.

Meeting on Strictly

Amy Walsh, 39, who portrays Tracy Robinson on Emmerdale, was supporting her co-star Kelvin Fletcher, while Toby was cheering for EastEnders actress Emma Barton. “It was just pure chance that we were both there that night, sat in the front row,” Amy recalled on Loose Women. “We were just chatting all night and really got on.”

Family Life

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Bonnie, in December 2021. They announced their engagement in August 2022 and married in 2023 in the mountains of Montenegro. Their wedding was attended by Girls Aloud singer Kimberly Walsh, Amy's sister, and EastEnders actress Shona McGarty, who performed a duet with singer Sonny Tennent. “It was honestly the most perfect day,” Amy told OK! magazine. “It surpassed all my expectations and more.” In March 2024, they welcomed their second daughter, Nell Rose.

Gray Atkins Returns

Smith returned to EastEnders in June 2026 after more than four years away. Gray Atkins first appeared in 2019 with wife Chantelle, whom he killed in 2020. He later murdered Kush Kazemi and Tina Carter, began a romance with Chelsea Fox, and was imprisoned in 2022. In the current storyline, Gray's grandmother Sheila tries to reconnect with his son Jordan, who was hit by Ian Beale's car and uses a wheelchair.

Other Roles

After leaving EastEnders in 2022, Smith played Charles Bingley in An American in Austen (2024) and Charles Barkley V in Love Across Time. In 2025, he stars as Sydney in Prime Video's A Murder Between Friends, alongside Dame Joan Collins. He also appears in the regency romance Seeking Persephone.
