Katie Alexander, the girlfriend of GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes, is reportedly "very upset" after being left out of the family circle that has formed around him following his stroke earlier this year. Friends of the 43-year-old relationship counsellor feel she has been "cast aside" after Holmes' ex-wives, Ruth Langsford, 66, and Gabrielle Holmes, joined forces to help him.
Katie had been living with Holmes in his £1.3million three-bedroom flat in Surrey, which he began renting after his split from Langsford in 2024. Following Holmes' hospitalisation, Ruth and Gabrielle pulled together with his wider family to form a close family unit as his future remains uncertain.
Cryptic Instagram Post and Family Tensions
At the weekend, Katie made a cryptic series of remarks about 'protecting your energy' and 'knowing your worth'. Sporting an aquamarine bikini, she posted on Instagram: "There is a quiet kind of strength in becoming comfortable with who you are. No longer needing to prove, explain or seek validation – just choosing peace, protecting your energy and finding beauty in the life you're creating."
Insisting that "softness is strength", she signed off: "Softness is strength. Peace is luxury. And knowing your worth changes everything. Starting with yourself."
A source told the Mail: "Katie has been left out in the cold, on her own, and that is very upsetting for her. There is no love lost between Katie and Ruth, or between her and some quarters of Eamonn's wider family, but Katie feels they aren't being very kind to her, as she is desperately wishing for him to come out the other side from his stroke as much as they are."
Claims of Unfair Treatment
The source added: "There are some people close to Eamonn who think Katie is after his money and the fame that goes with being his girlfriend. That is the narrative some have put out about her which is deeply unfair."
The source went on to claim that Katie "adores Eamonn" and is "heartbroken" that he has been unwell for so long. They added that it was "devastating" for her and that she feels she isn't being treated nicely by Eamonn's family.
Health Struggles and Family Support
According to The Sun on Sunday, Eamonn's family are understood to be managing his finances after he was taken ill earlier this year. Earlier this week, it was also reported that the news host would not be returning to his GB News hosting job, though this has been denied by the channel's bosses.
Holmes has battled with his health over the years, undergoing surgery for both hips to alleviate chronic hip, leg, and back pain in 2016. Following that, he fell down the stairs and fractured his shoulder, then got a painful infection and later had severe spinal issues that led to bladder and bowel problems and a nine-day hospital stay. In 2022, he suffered another fall.
In April, he was found at his flat by a carer after suffering a stroke and has not been spotted in public since. He was missing from the TRIC Awards in the summer and offered his thanks to viewers via a pre-recorded message after GB News won the Award for Best News Programme for the fourth consecutive year. In the message, he said: "I'd dearly wished I could have been there to celebrate with the team, but for now my focus has to be on making a full recovery and getting back to my best."
Following the presenter's stroke, his son Declan issued a statement where he thanked everyone for the support, admitting his dad's health woes were a "real shock". "I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing OK given the circumstances and we're taking it one step at a time. For now, we're focused on him and keeping things steady around him," he said. He added: "We'd really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family."
