Denise Van Outen, who finished as a joint runner-up on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, has broken her silence on the show's new hosting lineup. Following the departure of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman after 14 years, the BBC has confirmed that Emma Willis, Josh Widdecombe and Johannes Radebe will take over as hosts later this year.
Denise's Reaction to the New Hosts
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Express, the 52-year-old TV presenter said: "I think with the hosting gig, it's an incredible gig to do. It comes with a lot of pressure and a lot of expectation. It's such a big show, and I'm a massive fan of it. I've always loved the show."
She added: "I do feel like the hosts they've selected are right for this series. You really need that balance."
Denise's Own Strictly Experience
Denise, who was paired with professional dancer James Jordan in 2012, admitted she never saw herself as a host. "But hosting it, I don't think I ever saw myself hosting it because I love dancing so much that I always wanted to be on it and to dance. I'm glad that in 2012 I had the opportunity to dance on the show because dancing was always one of my favourite things," she said.
Her performance in week seven, a Charleston, earned the first tens of the series from judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell, while Craig Revel Horwood gave a nine. She and Kimberley Walsh finished as joint runners-up, with Olympic gymnast Louis Smith taking the trophy.
BBC's Excitement for the New Era
BBC chief content officer Kate Phillips said in a statement: "Emma, Johannes and Josh's chemistry is undeniable. There's been so much speculation and hype, so I'm relieved we can share the news with the public at last! I'd like to thank all the brilliant people we saw before making this tough decision. But the most beloved ballroom in the UK always leads the way, and in a Strictly first we have chosen three outstanding hosts to take up the mantel. Along with our amazing Strictly team, who are busy planning fabulous and unforgettable treats for this new series, I know this terrific trio can't wait to join our judges and pros to bring us must-see TV on the BBC this autumn."
The new series is expected to air later this year, with Emma, Josh and Johannes making their hosting debut.
