Delta Goodrem ‘So Honoured’ to Join Strictly Come Dancing

Australian pop star Delta Goodrem has described herself as “so honoured” to join the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing, while admitting she has doubts about her dancing abilities. The 41-year-old singer-songwriter and actress shared her excitement during an appearance on BBC One’s Morning Live programme.

Excitement and Honesty About Dancing Skills

Goodrem, who represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year, was asked how the BBC dancing competition compares with her previous experiences. “I love the spice of life, all the different varieties,” she said. “I’ve been so grateful to grow up in the music industry at home and take on challenges, and I love learning. I’m excited to learn from incredible dancers, and the coaches, the judges – I’m like, tell me everything and I’ll do my very best to give it a go. It’s such an incredible show here and I’m so honoured to step into it.”

The star confirmed she will be able to “start doing the jive and the cha-cha-cha very, very soon” as preparations for the hit show get underway.

First Contestants Announced for New Series

Goodrem is among the first contestants revealed for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. She joins a lineup that includes EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, reality star Dani Dyer, and celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton.

Drawing a comparison between Strictly and Eurovision, Goodrem noted the key difference: “It’s not like going into Eurovision, where that’s my voice and I get to go for it – but I’ll give it everything.”

Eurovision Success and Career Highlights

Reflecting on her Eurovision experience in Austria this May, where she finished fourth with her power ballad Eclipse, Goodrem said: “Honestly, I felt the whole country with me. I definitely felt that support and that love and support from the beginning. It was more profound and more special, and a treasured life moment. I will take it forever.” She added: “It was so wonderful to be able to be on that stage and to do what I love to do.”

Goodrem rose to fame playing shy teenager Nina Tucker on the Australian soap Neighbours from 2002 to 2003, later returning for guest appearances including the 2022 finale before the show was rebooted by Prime Video. She has also served as a coach on The Voice Australia and achieved five number-one albums in Australia.
