A recent Instagram clip of Daniel Radcliffe cheerfully signing autographs and taking selfies has gone viral, but it's not the Harry Potter star who is capturing viewers' attention. Instead, his muscular bodyguard has become the unexpected focus of the footage.
Bodyguard Steals the Spotlight
The video was posted by Alona, known as girlfromjerseycity on social media, who has 758,000 Instagram followers and frequently shares celebrity content. Text overlaid on the video reads: 'Daniel Radcliffe is cool and all... but can we discuss the bodyguard?' Alona commented: 'At this point, the bodyguard has his own fanbase.'
The bodyguard, dressed in a dark blue t-shirt, jeans, and sunglasses, is seen monitoring Radcliffe closely while signaling to fans when it's their turn to meet him. His chiseled features and muscular arms left fans utterly captivated.
Fan Reactions
One fan commented: 'Is the bodyguard single? Asking for a friend.' Another wrote: 'Hey Daniel, can you take a pic of me and your bodyguard. Thanks man.' Someone else responded: 'Amazing how you have a famous Hollywood star, but all we see is his hulking, beautiful bodyguard.'
Some likened him to True Blood heartthrob Alexander Skarsgård, while others praised his professional handling of the crowd. One remarked: 'His bodyguard is a pro. He's keeping awareness of all the surrounding up to identifying a kid waiting for a photo and helping his protectee engage with his fans in a healthy way that allows him to enjoy the best of stardom while being safe. Hats off to that guy.'
Radcliffe's Career and Personal Life
Daniel Radcliffe became a household name at age 12 with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2001, and he continued as the Boy Who Lived across seven more films. After the franchise ended in 2011, he tackled diverse roles in theatre and film, winning a Tony Award in 2024 for the musical Merrily We Roll Along. His latest Broadway solo production, Every Brilliant Thing, earned him a second Tony nomination.
Now 36, Radcliffe has spoken publicly about his struggle with alcohol in his teenage years as a way of managing the demands of celebrity. He has been sober since 2013 and credits his partner, American actress Erin Darke, with whom he has a son, for helping him stay on track. In a conversation with the Mirror earlier this year, he said: 'She has been a huge part of my happiness - and having a child. There is something about being truly known and understood by another human being. That is why love exists. You can't emphasise how wonderful that is.'
He also revealed that while he remains thankful for the fame and fortune from Harry Potter, he struggles to watch the films back. 'I guess I have more time now for me in the early films,' he said. 'When I was 18 I would cringe watching the early ones. Now I think the early films are sweet and I cringe watching myself when I was 18.'
