Crieff Film Festival returns next month for its second year, bringing together much-loved films, inspiring workshops and family-friendly activities across Crieff Hydro and Strathearn Community Campus. Following the success of its first year, the festival is back with a bold new theme for 2026: Sport.
This year's programme, held over August 7 and 8, celebrates the power of sport on screen — the drama, determination, rivalry, resilience and moments of triumph that bring people together. From iconic sporting stories to family activities and youth film workshops, the festival will once again shine a light on creativity, community and the joy of cinema in Crieff.
Sporting Films and Screenings
The 2026 festival programme includes screenings of F1, Jerry Maguire, Chariots of Fire, Invictus and Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, shown across Crieff Hydro and Strathearn Community Campus. The festival will open with a special Festival Premiere and Reception for Chariots of Fire, one of cinema's most celebrated sporting films and the perfect launch for this year's theme.
Youth Filmmaking Workshops
Young people will also have the chance to get creative through filmmaking workshops led by renowned filmmaker and film educator David Barras. With sessions for under 11 and 11-18 years, the workshops will give young people the opportunity to explore storytelling, filmmaking and the magic of bringing ideas to life on screen.
Community Activities
Alongside the film programme, Strathearn Community Campus will host a fun-filled day of community activities from 11am to 4pm, including family-friendly activities, face painting and plenty to keep children and young people entertained.
Quotes from Organisers
Karen Macartney for Creative Crieff said: "Crieff Film Festival was created to bring people together through film, culture and community. We are delighted to be returning for our second year with a sport-themed programme that celebrates ambition, teamwork, courage and the stories that inspire us. This year's festival is about more than watching films. It is about creating moments for families, young people and the wider community to enjoy, take part in and feel proud of. We are especially excited to welcome David Barras to Crieff and to offer young people the chance to explore filmmaking in a fun and inspiring way."
