Courtney Stodden has announced she is giving up alcohol as a birthday present to herself, marking her first sober birthday at age 25. The television personality shared the news in a video on Instagram, revealing she has been drinking since the age of 16.
In the video, Stodden explained that her drinking escalated after marrying young, often consuming two bottles of wine in a sitting. She said a recent illness after three martinis prompted her to reassess her relationship with alcohol, describing it as 'a scary thing to cut out' but necessary for a 'healthy change'.
Stodden acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that alcohol 'destroys families, relationships, and leads to self-destruction'. She expressed hope for finding happiness in sobriety and maintaining a clear mind in her mid-20s.
This decision follows a 2016 incident where Stodden posted a photo of champagne on Twitter, admitting she was 'numbing' her 'deep loneliness' with alcohol after suffering a miscarriage.
