Coronation Street legend Tracy Shaw has told fans she is "feeling great" after undergoing surgery to remove her tumours, following her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
The actress, best known for playing Maxine Peacock in the ITV soap from 1995 until 2003, shared the update in a video on social media in which she wore a dinosaur onesie seemingly inspired by the 90s children's series Barney & Friends.
'The tumours are out'
"Good morning everyone. It's done!!!" the 53-year-old declared. "The tumours are out, they're gone! They're gone! They're gone, they're gone, they're gone! I'm feeling great, it all went well."
She added: "I'm just popping on to say thank you. Thank you so much for all your messages and all your love. Greatly received and really helped me through it all. Everything went really well and I'm going to fill you in on all the descriptions."
Gratitude to hospital staff
Shaw praised the medical team who treated her, saying: "I just want to take a moment to thank every single person that worked in the hospital yesterday, every single person. The surgeons were amazing, I ended up having three surgeons and all the nurses, all the staff, everybody. And I had the best cup of tea and slice of toast when I came around out of theatre."
She captioned the video: "Happy Saturday. Feeling bless. Grateful Joy."
Support from former co-stars
Former Coronation Street co-star Jane Danson wrote: "Aw Tracy so glad it’s down love . Wishing you a speedy recovery. Lots of love," while Denise Welch commented: "Omg Tracy what amazing news." Actress Angela Griffin shared: "I love you. I’m so happy!" and Sue Devaney added: "Wonderful news! You are a brave, amazing woman."
Next steps in treatment
Earlier, Shaw had detailed her surgery day on Instagram, writing: "Surgery day arrived and went smoothly. Thank you, NHS, everyone who works for our NHS, saving lives and putting us on the path of health and recovery." She also thanked Charlotte, Louis and Samara for their help around the operation.
She explained: "Before going into surgery I met 3 surgeons, we weren’t sure what surgery would be the best, 3 options, I knew I was in safe hands, so I handed my well designed surgery tattoo to their trusted hands. I still have a breast but with no tumours in, GLORIOUS!! Trust the process."
Shaw concluded: "Next steps: 3 weeks I’ll find out my results, until then healing. Still having Phesgo injections, targeted chemo for HER 2 cancer. Then I’ll be signed back to the oncologist team for the next rounds of chemo."
