Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor has shared a health update on Good Morning Britain, confirming that a recent mammogram came back clear. Speaking to hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh, the 46-year-old, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, said: "Yeah, I'm good. I had a mammogram a couple of weeks ago and all clear. So, onwards and upwards."
Diagnosis and fainting episode
During the interview, Dynevor recalled the moment she learned of her cancer diagnosis, which caused her to faint. She explained that after filming scenes with Michael Le Vell, in which her character told her on-screen husband about her cancer, she mentioned she was going to see her consultant after finding a lump.
Initially dismissing concerns, she told Le Vell: "I've got a lump, it's tiny, it's nothing, and I'm going to have a meeting with Lester (Barr) at the end of the day." After recording, she met her real-life husband, Tim, at the hospital, where her consultant confirmed the biopsy showed breast cancer.
Dynevor continued: "The next thing I knew, I fainted. I was on the floor. I woke up on a bed. I looked at him, my husband was there, and I said, 'I think you're mixing me up with my character'. He said, 'No, I'm not'. I had little children, it was 17 years ago, so it was a while ago."
Family and recovery
The actress revealed that her eldest daughter, Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne in Bridgerton, was nine years old at the time, while her other children were seven and five. In 2010, Dynevor received the all clear after undergoing surgery, a lumpectomy, and chemotherapy treatment.
Dynevor appeared on the programme to discuss the new National Breast Imaging Academy in Manchester. Ranvir Singh told viewers that the facility will train around 50 specialists each year, who will then be deployed across the NHS.
Academy opening
Singh said: "It's so significant as it will increase local screening capacity by up to an astonishing 13,000 appointments a year. The wonderful actress Sally Dynevor, herself, as I'm sure you know, a breast cancer survivor, was one of the first to get a tour of the academy building, which opens its doors today."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
