Coronation Street's Lucy Fallon on Bethany twist and health

Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has revealed a major twist for her character Bethany Platt, who discovers she is pregnant after a one-night stand with her mum's ex-boyfriend, DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).

The ITV soap's latest episode, which aired on Tuesday 13 and is streaming on ITVX, saw Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) learn of Kit's breast cancer diagnosis during a visit with Bethany and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce). Bethany then begged her mum to let Gary Windass (Mikey North) take the fall for Theo Silverton's murder, ahead of the trial this week. The drama continued as Bethany noticed two red lines on a pregnancy test.

Lucy Fallon's life beyond the cobbles

Lucy is currently engaged to professional footballer Ryan Ledson, who plays for League One side Huddersfield Town. The couple share two children, three-year-old Sonny and 21-month-old Nancy.

The actress has openly discussed her previous stay at The Priory, a facility specialising in mental health care. Speaking on Johnny Seifert's Secure the Insecure podcast, she said: "I was just at the absolute rock bottom that I've ever, ever felt. And I really, really, really struggled."

She continued: "I had a really bad batch of mental health towards the end of 2020 and I ended up being in The Priory for about five weeks because my mental health was so bad. I couldn't see a way out of feeling how I was feeling."

Bethany's baby twist

Addressing the baby twist, Lucy confirmed Kit as the father of the child. Expressing her astonishment upon discovering the storyline, she said: "When our producer Kate [Brooks] was telling me what was happening and then she said that she ends up being pregnant, my jaw was on the floor."

She added: "I think it's so good in the sense that now they have got to face the consequences of what they've done and they can't just brush it under the carpet in the way that they wanted to. It's adding a whole other level of drama for the audience."

The actress went on to address the possibility of a termination, explaining: "Morally she's not totally against it, that's not the person she is, but then it's a big decision to make and it's whether she feels like she would be able to go through with that. She's been through quite a lot of stuff herself, so whether she feels like she can go through with this I don't know."

Lucy added: "Bethany and Sarah have a really good relationship, she's been such a support to her, she's basically been a mum to Harry while Sarah's been in prison. They're almost like best friends because they're not so far apart in age. So she's not feeling great about it, and I think it's going to eat away at her until one day she can't take it anymore."

Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
