Coronation Street fans spot new front door at No. 7 after 44 years

Coronation Street fans were left picking their jaw up off the floor after spotting a subtle change to the iconic street. The beloved ITV soap, created by Tony Warren, has been a staple on screens for over six decades, making its debut back in 1960. Over the years, it has introduced viewers to hundreds of characters living on the famous street, from the Platts at No. 8 to the Driscoll clan at The Rovers Return.

Change to No. 7 Coronation Street

Earlier this week, fans noticed a change had been debuted to No. 7 Coronation Street, the middle house on the cobbles. No. 7 has an interesting history and was made habitable back in 1981 by Len Fairclough, who purchased the property. Its current owner is Dev Alahan, who bought the house from Maria Connor.

In Tuesday's episode (August 18), fans spotted that the property's exterior had been updated in one of the scenes. On X, one person said: “Just noticed Dev and Bernie’s new front door and windows have made their debut!”

Fan reactions to the update

A second chimed in: “Spotted that earlier too! No storyline reasons... Dev just did it. Much like the scaffolding outside the corner shop!” A third shared: “Love the colour, really stands out. Dev & Bernie have been busy decorating off-screen when we haven't seen them. Very Bernie style.”

Echoing their thoughts, another wrote: “The outside of No. 7 is now dark pink??? Would Len Fairclough have approved?” Meanwhile, Coronation Street tour guide @ShaunInBrum also shared: "A new look at No. 7 Coronation Street debuted today. Fun fact, this was updated in June (with advance filming) on the same week that Len Fairclough was seen completing the outside of the then new house with a lick of paint in June 82. That front door lasted 44 years!"

History of the Coronation Street set

Coronation Street, known for its traditional, early 20th-century red-brick terraced houses, was originally filmed in Manchester city centre, before its production relocated and its set was demolished. The soap moved to Media City in 2013, situated on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford. Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
