South Lanarkshire College (SLC) has unveiled a new billboard campaign in East Kilbride to support the Scotland men's national team ahead of their first World Cup match in 28 years, which will take place in Boston. The billboard prominently features an image of Scott McTominay's iconic overhead kick goal at Hampden Park, a moment that helped secure Scotland's qualification for the tournament and is now immortalized on Scotland's £20 note.
The campaign also highlights SLC's recent achievement of being named Scotland's top-performing college for full-time education for the third consecutive year. In a lighthearted comparison, the college notes that just as McTominay has been scoring crucial goals for the national team, SLC has been helping students achieve their career goals since 1948.
Having topped the Scottish league tables for full-time further education among larger colleges, SLC's staff and students have issued a friendly challenge to the Scotland team: repeat their success and deliver a strong performance at the World Cup. The billboard proudly declares the college's support for the national team while celebrating its own academic excellence.
College Leadership Expresses Support
Stella McManus, Principal and CEO of South Lanarkshire College, expressed enthusiasm for the campaign: 'We're delighted at South Lanarkshire College to launch this fun campaign, cheering on Scotland. Because just like how this Scotland team has been scoring goals, SLC has been helping our students achieve their career goals since 1948.'
She added, 'Having been confirmed as Scotland's top performing college for full-time further education, we know a thing or two about how to top a league table – so if Steve Clarke needs any advice, I'd be happy to take his call.'
McManus concluded, 'All our students and staff this week have been cheering on the team, so I can say with the complete support of everyone at South Lanarkshire College – Come on Scotland!'
Community and College Spirit
The billboard campaign has generated excitement among students and staff, who are rallying behind the national team. The college's achievement as the top-performing institution for full-time education underscores its commitment to student success, while the playful nod to McTominay's goal reflects the community's pride in Scotland's World Cup return.
