Coleen Nolan Addresses Claims She Doesn't Like Her Son Jake Roche
Coleen Nolan Responds to Claims About Son Jake Roche

Coleen Nolan has responded to suggestions that she doesn't like one of her children after fans observed she is rarely seen with him. The Loose Women star addressed the claims during the latest episode of her family podcast, Nolans Uncensored, which she hosts alongside her son Shane Jr and daughter Ciara Fensome.

Jake Roche Joins Family Podcast for First Time

Last month, Coleen's other son, Jake Roche, appeared on the podcast for the first time. Throughout the episode, the family discussed sibling stereotypes, exploring everything from eldest child responsibility to middle child attention-seeking and the youngest sibling getting an easy ride. Jake also shared what he genuinely thought about his mum, brother and sister launching a family podcast without him.

Reading Listener Messages

In the latest episode, the trio read out messages from listeners sharing their thoughts on the podcast and Jake's appearance. Reading one message that grabbed her attention, Ciara said: 'Jake makes the most sense,' which prompted Coleen to reply: 'That's fair.'

The 61-year-old then responded to comments she frequently receives about Jake, saying: 'No to be fair, it was great having Jake on though wasn't it because everyone's always like, "Do you not like your other son?", it was great having him on.'

Family Reflections on Growing Up

Elsewhere in the episode, the family took a journey down memory lane as they looked back on the pressures of growing up, the mistakes they made as teenagers and what they would say to their younger selves. While Shane and Ciara reminisced about their adolescent years, they acknowledged that Jake's journey took a markedly different path following his breakthrough in Emmerdale and with the band Rixton.

Coleen revealed: 'Jake, because he moved down South when he was like 14, I don't know if he had much of a teenage experience, but his came much later when he got the fame and he went off the rails.'

Jake's Unique Path to Stardom

Shane reflected on that chapter of Jake's life, which he recalled was when his brother was approximately 21 years old. He noted: 'Because he went to that school and he was living with dad by himself.' Shane then drew parallels between Jake's ascent to stardom and their mother's early days as a performer with The Nolans.

'I think he's very much similar in terms of you where he didn't have much of a team,' he observed. Coleen continued: 'Well, also, where he lived, he didn't have any mates. They all lived around London so there was never any of that, "Are we all meeting on a Friday?" or whatever.'

Jake's Theatrical Return

Last year, Jake made a theatrical return in a fresh capacity, performing in an autobiographical production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In conversation with The Mirror at the time, the performer discussed the unwavering support his mother provided throughout his professional journey.

He said: 'My mum is great, although every time she posts, last year we had a horde of Loose Women fans, which is really lovely, but as the show started going on, I could just sense these really confused Loose fans thinking "What the f**k is he doing?"'

'I'm happy for anyone to turn up, there's definitely been fans of my mum and dad and fans of Rixton, it's quite confronting for an audience member, which is what I wanted the show to be. They've been amazing, as always.'
