Jeremy Clarkson Defends Holly Ramsay After 'Cruel' Wedding Dress Remark

Jeremy Clarkson has come to the defence of Holly Ramsay after her wedding dress was compared to a bedsheet in a newspaper column. Holly, the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty at Bath Abbey on December 27.

Writing in her Daily Mail column, Sarah Vine described Holly's dress as “covered by a bizarre lace-edged white satin shroud which might have been designed to make her look romantic and whimsical but which, thanks to the windy weather, just made her look like she’d got tangled up in a bedsheet”.

In his own column for The Sun, Clarkson, 65, said he knew with “absolute certainty” never to criticise a bride's dress, adding that even if it looked like a “blancmange”, saying so would be out of order. He expressed “horror” at Vine's “cruel” words.

Clarkson, who is friends with Gordon Ramsay, explained: “Now look. It is absolutely fair enough to have a go at those who stick their heads above the parapet. I do that all the time. But Holly is simply the daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay. Why lay into her? It seems to be just cruel.” He added that Vine should be “ashamed of herself” and urged: “Lay into the father if you must. But his kids? No. Leave them alone, and especially so on their wedding day.”

Holly and Adam are believed to have honeymooned in Mauritius, a gift from her parents. Meanwhile, Clarkson also recounted his own motoring mishap, having left the lights on in his Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster overnight, leading to a flat battery and then forgetting he had left the engine running, which drained the fuel.
