An Alabama man suspected of killing his girlfriend died of a heart attack while dragging her body through a wooded area, according to autopsy results. The bodies of Jessica Folds, 47, and Daniel Robbins, 44, were discovered on June 10 in a forest near Lanett, Alabama, where Folds had grown up.
Discovery of the Bodies
Police were called to the scene around midday after a passerby noticed an abandoned vehicle with its engine running on a dirt road. The driver's side door was open, and the tailgate was down. Officers followed drag marks from the truck into the scrub, where they found the two bodies. The passerby initially thought the remains were mannequins, Chambers County Sheriff Jeff Nelson told WTVM.
Folds' body was found with her hands raised over her head, a few miles from her home. An autopsy confirmed she was strangled to death. Robbins' body was curled in the fetal position next to hers, with a clear drag path visible at the scene.
Sequence of Events
Police believe Robbins killed Folds during a domestic violence attack the night before. District Attorney Mike Segrest said officials think Robbins was trying to dispose of her body when he collapsed and died. "He died of a heart attack while doing it," Segrest said. "Their bodies were right there together."
It is unclear how long the pair had been dating. Public records show Folds, a mother of three adult sons and grandmother of two, had lost her husband of five years in February 2025. Her obituary noted she "touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and smile that brightened the world."
Ongoing Investigation
Police have not released a motive for the alleged killing, which remains under investigation. Robbins, a father to one daughter, had his obituary removed from the funeral home's website. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Folds' murder and Robbins' death.
