Channel 4's new documentary series 'Surgery Secrets of the Super Rich' offers viewers a rare glimpse into the world of high-end cosmetic procedures, including what it calls the UK's first 'lunchtime boob job'—an awake breast augmentation completed in about 90 minutes.
What Happened in the Show
The hour-long episodes go behind the doors of some of the UK's leading cosmetic clinics, showcasing procedures that are only affordable to wealthy clients and celebrities. Surgeons and practitioners explain techniques behind sought-after treatments, such as advanced injectables and deep plane facelifts, revealing how they create natural-looking results.
In one episode, viewers meet Phoebe, a marathon runner from the West Midlands, who opts for the 'lunchtime boob job' to avoid a lengthy recovery. The procedure is designed to be less invasive than traditional breast augmentation, minimising tissue damage to speed up healing. In an exclusive clip, Phoebe remains awake on the operating table, describing the sensation as 'like trying to get on a pair of jeans that are too tight.'
Impact and Reactions
Commissioning Editor Deborah Dunnett said: 'Cosmetic surgery is in a new era. And the very fact the trend is called "undetectable beauty" makes me desperate to get to the bottom of what’s going on.' She added: 'The beauty of Curve’s series is that by working with this otherwise inaccessible world, we can all understand what treatments there are, what they cost, what the physical toll is and how much time we’d need to take off work to get it without anyone knowing!'
Camilla Lewis from Curve Media said: 'With Surgery Secrets of the Super-Rich, we wanted to go beyond the headlines and hashtags to explore the real people, pressures, and procedures driving Britain’s cosmetic surgery boom. It’s glossy, revealing, and full of surprises, and we can’t wait for viewers to see it.'
'Surgery Secrets of the Super Rich' airs at 8pm tonight on Channel 4.
