A cat's reaction to his owner chewing gum in a seriously obnoxious way has left people in stitches, with many saying they don't blame the cat for his response in the slightest.
Cat's Disgust Caught on Camera
Owner @honehhpot shared a video of her cat's reaction while she chewed gum loudly in the back seat of a car. The cat, who reportedly hates when people chew gum, first looked forward, but as the chewing grew louder, his mouth opened in disgust and he turned to face her.
He looked seriously unimpressed, silently begging her to stop, with his mouth downturned in disapproval. When staring didn't work, he turned away, scowling as she put the camera in his face.
Viewers Side with the Cat
The clip, which received over eight million likes on TikTok, drew comments from people who called the cat's reaction "valid" and said they would have reacted even more strongly. One person wrote, "He looks so disgusted," while another said, "Girl if you were chewing like that next to me me and the cat would be looking at you the same."
A fourth joked that the "cat has misophonia," though that condition only affects humans. Cats, however, can suffer from noise aversion or feline audiogenic reflex hypersensitivity, which causes distress, panic, or seizures from certain sounds.
Noise aversion is a strong fear response to sudden, loud, or unpredictable noises. Generally, it's important to avoid triggers for cats, but in this case, the cat seemed more judgmental than distressed.
