Carrie Underwood is offering her fans an intimate look at the 400-acre farm in Franklin, Tennessee, where she resides with her family. The 43-year-old country singer opened up about her 'traditional' marriage to Mike Fisher and the Tennessee property, situated just outside Nashville, which they share together. An insider provided additional insight into her 'real life' away from Hollywood in her Us Weekly cover story, published on Wednesday.
The mother of two shared a glimpse into her 'grounded' lifestyle and described her marriage as part of a 'very traditional couple living a not-so-traditional life.' This revelation comes as the singer, who won American Idol nearly 21 years ago and returned as a judge in March 2025, has faced repeated criticism from fans of the show.
Underwood married her hockey player husband at the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation in Georgia in July 2010, almost a decade before they began embracing farm life together in Tennessee. Underwood and the NHL player share two sons: Isaiah Michael Fisher, 11, and Jacob Bryan Fisher, seven. The couple has been raising their boys on the sprawling farm since leaving Hollywood in 2019.
The property was purchased in 2011 for a reported $3 million, and they completed renovations on their 'forever home' around 2018. In her recent interview, the singer shared details about how her family raises horses and chickens on the farm. Across the many acres, Underwood and her family built barns and gardens where she cultivates carrots and beets.
'When I'm away [for work], I'm like Cinderella at the ball,' she told the outlet, highlighting the contrast between her entertainment career in the city and her 'grounded' life at home. 'I'm a princess, and it's great. And then I come home, and I'm covered in dirt [and] poop. It's just the polar opposite.' She added, 'I'm cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen. I wouldn't have it any other way.'
The 'Before He Cheats' singer, who recently wrapped up her nearly four-year residency in Las Vegas in April of last year, 'really enjoyed' the 'great gig with a nice schedule,' but admitted she was 'ready to be home' by the end. Underwood 'loves life on the farm,' an insider confirmed, noting that her 'happy place' is at home with her family. The source said she adores 'growing vegetables, caring for animals and teaching her kids to do the same.'
'She loves her career and creating and performing, but as she has said, that's not her real life. Her real life is at home with her family,' the insider shared. The source also revealed that Underwood's husband of 15 years was happy to have her back home. 'As supportive as he is of her career, he's a guy who wants normalcy,' the insider said. 'They are a very traditional couple living a not-so-traditional life.'
'On paper, they're not very similar, but they share their faith and have always put that first,' the source added about their marriage. The outlet also noted one of their differences: Underwood loves animals and is a vegetarian, while her husband treats hunting and fishing 'like a full-time job' that she 'puts up with.'
'If I had all the time in the world, I would not really need to go to the grocery store for too much,' Underwood told Fox News Digital about living a 'self-sustained' life at home with her husband and kids. 'It's a lot of fun. We have cows, we have sheep, we have donkeys. We have horses. I have my garden, and it's a great way to connect with the earth. That's my contribution to the family.'
The insider added: 'When she isn't working, Carrie loves spending time with her boys and being outdoors. When they're in Tennessee, it's the typical lifestyle of a family with young kids.' In addition to tending to her farm, Underwood often 'works out with her trainer at home' and 'loves to run outside' on the property.
