Carol Kirkwood Makes Surprise Comeback on Good Morning Britain

Carol Kirkwood returned to weather reporting on a rival breakfast show on Friday morning (June 26), just months after retiring from BBC Breakfast. The 64-year-old meteorologist joined Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh on Good Morning Britain, where she discussed her retirement plans and the importance of regular health checks.

Kirkwood retired from BBC Breakfast in April after nearly three decades with the corporation, tearfully bidding farewell to viewers alongside her husband. However, she made a comeback on ITV's Good Morning Britain, surprising viewers who had assumed she was stepping away from television for good.

Health and Retirement Discussed

During the interview, Kate Garraway noted that retirement should be an opportunity to live life to the fullest, but often health issues prevent that. Kirkwood agreed, revealing she recently booked a mature health assessment. “I want to live life well into old age, and I want to be healthy, and I want to do all the things that we have planned, and travelling is a big one,” she said.

She shared details of her health assessment, stating: “I thought my cholesterol was going to be horrific because my body is full of chocolate – this is not a temple. My cholesterol was fine, and I thought my fitness would be quite good because I'm on my feet a lot, but it was just average, which is really disappointing.”

Kirkwood also highlighted research showing that 41% of people think life will be good as they age, but only 12% achieve that. She emphasized prevention over cure: “Prevention for me is much better than a cure.”

Personal Life and Husband

Kirkwood opened up about her relationship with husband Steve Randall, revealing they met at a concert and have aspirations to travel the world together. The segment also saw her take over weather duties from Laura Tobin, delivering the forecast for Good Morning Britain.

Viewer Reactions

Viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express confusion and surprise at Kirkwood's TV comeback. One user wrote: “Eh? Carol Kirkwood retired not so long ago to spend more time with her husband?” Another commented: “Carol Kirkwood is back on TV again! You can't keep her away for long.” A third asked: “Did anyone else catch Carol Kirkwood on GMB?”

Kirkwood's return marks a notable shift from her long-time home at BBC Breakfast to a rival channel, demonstrating her enduring appeal in morning television.
