Gordon Ramsay has come to the defence of Brooklyn Beckham after the 23-year-old faced criticism for a video showing him preparing a rare rib roast. The clip, posted on social media on January 6, drew comments from viewers who deemed the meat undercooked.
Ramsay, 56, told the Daily Mail that he has not seen the video but expressed support for Beckham, whom he has known since childhood. 'Brooklyn has grown up with my kids and is the son of dear friends of ours,' Ramsay said. 'Even as a 12-year-old, whilst playing football, Brooklyn was always excited about food. So, I’m pleased that he’s gone down that road and he’s found something he really enjoys doing.'
The Michelin-starred chef, who currently stars in the competition show Gordon's Future Food, sympathised with Beckham over the scrutiny he faces due to his famous parents. 'It’s hard, isn’t it? Because he didn’t ask for that level of intrusion from having famous parents. It probably came off a certain way, but it’s not his fault. So I have no issues against it. I’m excited. We have another chef joining the mix,' Ramsay added.
Beckham's video prompted a flurry of negative comments, with one viewer writing, 'A bit too raw for my taste,' and another saying, 'Might as well bite the cow while it’s grazing.' A third comment read, 'A good vet could bring that back to life,' accompanied by a sick face emoji.
However, Beckham has also received support from his mother, Victoria Beckham, who reposted the video and expressed excitement about trying the Sunday roast. Other fans defended him, with one user tweeting, 'A bit too raw for my taste but JESUS the amount of people sitting and having nothing better to do than to comment on a 20-something year old’s post of cooking something and clearly being passionate about it is disgusting.'
