Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz have reportedly decided to stop celebrating the anniversary of their 2022 wedding, with sources claiming the day is overshadowed by painful memories.
Instead, the couple are said to have chosen the date of their private vow renewal last summer as the anniversary they will mark publicly going forward, following months of speculation over their rift with the Beckham family.
Wedding and vow renewal details
The pair married during a three-day celebration at the Peltz family's Palm Beach estate in April 2022, with around 500 guests in attendance, including the Beckham family. However, they renewed their vows in a private ceremony in August last year attended by Nicola's family and close friends, with Sir David and Victoria Beckham notably absent.
According to a new report, the couple now consider the vow renewal to be their “official” anniversary, believing it better reflects the relationship they wanted to celebrate.
Source reveals reasons
A source told the Sun: “Brooklyn and Nicola's first wedding in April 2022 is not an occasion they look back on fondly. Nicola ended up in tears. It's not something they want to be reminded of.”
“Their second wedding, where they renewed their vows last August with just her family and their friends, does hold so many happy memories however. Going forwards, they've decided that this is the date they will celebrate publicly together.”
Public messages
The couple appeared to reinforce that message on Wednesday by marking the anniversary of their vow renewal on Instagram. Sharing a photograph of the pair together, Brooklyn wrote: "Happy anniversary Nicola I can't tell you how much I love you x you are my best friend and I love you more than life itself xx. I am so lucky to be able to call you my wife xx you are my absolute princess and I promise to always protect you xx."
Nicola also posted a tribute, writing: "happy anniversary my love you make life so beautiful. thank you for being the most amazing husband i could ever dream of." Neither publicly marked the anniversary of their April 2022 wedding earlier this year.
Rift with Beckham family
The reported change comes amid the long-running rift between Brooklyn and his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. Earlier this year, Brooklyn said he and Nicola had chosen to renew their vows to “create new memories that bring us joy and happiness”. He also alleged that events surrounding their first wedding had left them with painful memories, including claims that Victoria disrupted their planned first dance and tensions over the reception. The Beckhams have not publicly responded to those allegations.
