Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz have taken another subtle dig at the Beckham family by posting gushing tributes to mark the first anniversary of their second, secret wedding – an event no Beckham attended.
Notably, Brooklyn did not post an anniversary tribute to Nicola in April, as the couple have decided to celebrate their August 2025 wedding date going forward. This follows their first wedding in April 2022, which was marred by controversy, including claims that Victoria Beckham danced inappropriately with Brooklyn, leaving Nicola in tears.
Couple's decision to celebrate second wedding
A source told The Sun: “Brooklyn and Nicola’s first wedding in April 2022 is not an occasion they look back on fondly. Nicola ended up in tears. It’s not something they want to be reminded of. Their second wedding, where they renewed their vows last August with just her family and their friends, does hold so many happy memories, however. Going forwards, they’ve decided that this is the date they will celebrate publicly together.”
Nicola, who has never previously celebrated their April 2022 anniversary on social media, posted a gushing tribute on the day of their second ceremony. She shared a photograph of them kissing and wrote: “Happy anniversary my love. You make life so beautiful. Thank you for being the most amazing husband I could ever dream of.”
Brooklyn also shared his own tribute: “Happy anniversary Nicola. I can’t tell you how much I love you. You are my absolute princess and I promise to always protect you.”
Moving on from the past
According to those close to the couple, Brooklyn and Nicola wanted to reclaim their big day after their disastrous first wedding. A source told The Sun: “Brooklyn and Nicola are thriving now and they’re incredibly happy. Their second wedding last year was beautiful and couldn’t have been more perfect. For them, this is the moment they want to celebrate. It’s why Nicola chose to post about it too. It’s the first time she’s wanted to publicly celebrate her wedding to Brooklyn. They don’t think it feels pointed, it’s just honest.”
The Beckhams learned about Brooklyn and Nicola's second wedding last year at the same time as everyone else, via an entertainment news website. An insider said at the time: “This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them. It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that.”
Brooklyn's public statement
Five months after the second ceremony, Brooklyn issued a blistering social media statement revealing he no longer wanted contact with his family. He described the 2022 wedding as an “embarrassment,” adding: “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness.”
He also attacked Victoria, writing: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
The Beckhams were reportedly “blind sided” by the statement, a feeling common among estranged parents, according to experts. Clinical psychologist Dr. Lindsay Gibson, author of Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents, told the New York Times that parents often “fail to see the warning signs leading up to an adult child's decision to distance themselves.” Dr Gibson says emotionally immature parents “expect their children to unquestioningly accommodate their needs,” which means they “may feel entirely blind sided when boundaries or estrangement are enforced, making them view the adult child as being unfair or 'bad'.”
