A woman has faced criticism from her family after leaving her sister's wedding reception early because she was not allowed to bring her service dog. The 27-year-old, who suffers from severe anxiety and PTSD, says her sister, the bride, refused to accommodate the animal despite knowing its importance.
Posting on Reddit's 'Am I The A**hole' forum, the woman explained that she had informed her sister months in advance that she would be bringing her trained service dog to the wedding. However, days before the event, the bride told her that the dog would be disruptive and might make guests uncomfortable, asking her to leave the dog at home.
The Reddit user declined an offer to have a human companion instead, stating that her service dog was essential for her wellbeing. She ultimately attended the ceremony without the dog but left the reception early as she felt overwhelmed. Her sister later accused her of making the wedding about herself.
Online commentators overwhelmingly sided with the woman, calling it discrimination against a medical condition. One user noted, 'You have a service dog.
