Bride, 19, screams at 'rude' guests from altar

A 19-year-old bride shouted at wedding guests to “shut up” from the altar after they talked over the priest during her ceremony. Kaitlin Rooney married Lawrence Rooney at St Gregory's Church in Northampton, Northamptonshire, on May 28, but was running nearly two hours late due to taking wedding photos.

The already “panicked and stressed” 19-year-old claims her “rude” guests would not stop chatting after she made her entrance into the church. She says she grew “angry” when the noise forced the “really stressed” priest to stop mid-speech, and she knew that if she did not intervene, her guests would continue talking over him.

Viral TikTok clip

Video footage posted on TikTok captures the moment Kaitlin shouts at her guests, captioned: “I was not a bridezilla, people made me be one”. The clip has since gone viral with more than 2.5 million views.

In the video, the priest can be heard saying “we come together” before abruptly falling silent as guests carry on chattering over him. The furious bride then spins round to face the noisy congregation and bellows “everyone shut up” before fixing them with a fierce glare.

Bride's account

Kaitlin, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, said: “My guests brought the bridezilla side out in me. After I got ready my photographer was taking photos but he was taking photos for a very long time so I was already nearly two hours late to my own ceremony.”

She added: “I was panicking and stressing and thinking the priest is going to be so [annoyed]. Everyone kept talking and I knew my priest was already upset over me being nearly two hours late. I just stood thinking 'don't do it, don't scream, maybe they'll quiet down in a second'. Then the priest stopped talking and was looking around really stressed.”

“I knew if I didn't say something they'd keep at it. Their conversations were just about how nice I looked and that they couldn't believe we were getting married. I know I looked nice but they could've waited. I was giving everyone dirty looks like 'shut up' but nobody was taking it so I had to speak up then. I just screamed 'everyone shut up' but when I did no one listened.”

Guests failed to listen

She said she was “quite shocked and upset” when her guests failed to listen. “It was my husband's best man that had to whistle for everyone to go quiet. I'm grateful, if it wasn't for him, I think everyone would've still been sitting there talking.”

Kaitlin, who met her 18-year-old husband at a concert in 2024, says she can now look back and laugh at the moment. She said: “In the moment I was really angry but now I don't care about them talking, now I look back and it was funny. I knew there was going to be a moment where I ended up screaming at someone and it turned out to be the whole church, but that's okay.”

She added: “Everyone told me I was right for what I did and that they would've done worse than what I did and they would've kicked everyone out. I'm not like that and I just wanted them to be quiet. I was having one of those days but it's one of those moments I'd love to go back on. It was the best day ever and I couldn't fault it even with the things that went wrong.”

Kaitlin urged other brides not to stress too much, saying: “Don't stress about your wedding and if anything goes wrong cherish it because those moments will always be a reminder of what happened on your big day.”
