Jude Bellingham has overtaken Harry Kane as England's most recognizable football superstar, according to fans surveyed in Beverly Hills, California. The Daily Star quiz showed photos of five England players—Bellingham, Kane, Declan Rice, Jordan Pickford, and Nico O'Reilly—to international fans, who identified Bellingham unanimously.
Bellingham's Global Appeal
Every fan from the US, Mexico, Czechia, and Bosnia recognized Bellingham. One American girl said she knew him “because he’s beautiful.” Another US sports fan called him “the only one I recognise,” adding, “I’ve heard he’s a great player.”
Kane and Others
Nearly everyone identified captain Harry Kane, though some needed a reminder of his two goals in England's 4-2 opening win against Croatia. Czech and Bosnian fans recognized all players except newcomer Nico O’Reilly, with one saying, “Oh he must be new. I don’t know his face.” Another fan joked, “I don’t think he’s even a footballer. I think you’re trying to trick me.” Only one of 30 fans, a female American student, correctly identified O’Reilly as a Manchester City player.
Bellingham's Commercial Potential
Bellingham’s stock has soared after his goal against Croatia. Football finance expert Professor Rob Wilson, head of Executive Education at the University Campus of Football Business, told financial platform Vettory that Bellingham could earn an extra £10 million if he leads England to World Cup glory. Wilson said, “From a commercial point of view the standout England player is likely to be Jude Bellingham again. We have a rare mix with him of elite performance with Real Madrid’s visibility paired with England hero potential.” Wilson estimates Bellingham currently earns around £40 million from Real Madrid and other ventures, plus £15 million off the pitch. A defining World Cup could boost his off-pitch earnings to £25 million. “The reason he is so valuable is that he can sell across multiple platforms… luxury fashion, gaming, watches, and health products,” Wilson added.
