Sir David Beckham was quick to shut down questions about his family and their ongoing feud with his and Victoria's eldest child, Brooklyn, as he was notably absent during his father's latest acknowledgement.
Hollywood Walk of Fame Honor
The former footballer, 51, was recognised with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (June 12) for his role in elevating the profile of soccer in America, and his lasting influence on sport, entertainment and global culture.
Sir David thanked his "incredible family" and "beautiful children" while reflecting on how "mind-blowing" the achievement is during his speech at the presentation, which also saw actor Tom Cruise praise his 20-year career.
The ex-England and Manchester United star said: "I must admit that this is all rather surreal. I’ve experienced some amazing moments in my career, but to be here in Los Angeles receiving a star on the world-famous Walk of Fame is truly incredible."
"I’ve always been a dreamer, but I could never have imagined that an honour like this would come to a working-class English soccer player like me. I grew up in the East End of London, a long way from Hollywood. As a young boy, I loved soccer more than anything and it was all I ever wanted to do. I always loved America, though, and its TV shows."
Shutting Down Family Questions
But when he spoke to Variety in an interview which coincided with him receiving the star, Sir David shut down talk of his estranged son. The interviewer asked dad-of-four David how he deals with the "vicious" media coverage about the "strife" in his family.
But he replied: "To be honest, I'm sorry to stop you there, but that's a private matter. That's the one thing that I don't want to talk about."
Brooklyn's Escalating Feud
It comes months after Brooklyn claimed he did "not want to reconcile" with his parents, having accused them of attempting to control the public narrative surrounding their family’s every movement, while also ruining his wedding to his wife, Nicola Peltz.
His bombshell statement, shared on social media, came after months of speculation of a feud between the famous couple and their 27-year-old son, during which he missed a number of big family occasions, such as David's 50th birthday and the former Manchester United footballer receiving a Knighthood from King Charles III.
Now, the ongoing rift within the Beckham family has intensified this weekend, with representatives for Brooklyn publicly accusing his family of orchestrating a media stunt involving his 14-year-old sister, Harper.
The Mirror reports that following the ceremony, Harper travelled unaccompanied to her eldest brother’s Los Angeles residence in what was initially reported as an "unannounced" attempt at reconciliation.
However, a spokesperson for Brooklyn dismissed the narrative of a spontaneous peace offering.
"That photographers were in place as the letter was hand-delivered says it all - this was choreographed for the cameras," a representative for the 27-year-old said in a statement to Page Six.
