David Beckham and Katherine Jenkins shared an awkward proximity at Wimbledon on Monday, with photos capturing no interaction between the two stars amid their long-standing feud. The football legend, 51, sat in the Royal Box while the opera singer, 46, was just feet away with her husband, Andrew Levitas.
Star-Studded Wimbledon Opening Day
Katherine, who married Andrew in 2014, looked radiant in a white polka-dot dress paired with a matching bag and oversized sunglasses. Andrew wore a double-breasted navy suit and pink tie, holding hands with his wife as they posed for photos. David attended with his mother, Sandra, wearing grey attire and appearing engrossed in the matches, taking selfies with her but avoiding turning around to chat with Katherine.
The awkwardness stems from a feud that began in 2012 when Katherine denied rumors of an affair with David, calling them 'very hurtful' and 'untrue.' She stated she had only met him twice. The tension escalated in 2017 with the 'Beckileaks' scandal, where leaked emails allegedly showed David calling her OBE a 'f***ing joke' and suggesting she received it for 'singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke.'
Fallout from Beckileaks
Katherine admitted to trying cocaine years earlier, and the leaked emails caused her distress. She told Fabulous magazine: 'I'm a human being. Of course, something like that would be hurtful.' She added that sometimes famous people get 'dragged into things you shouldn't be involved in.' David's camp defended the material as 'taken out of context and doctored.'
In 2018, Katherine said she had not received an apology from David, telling The Sun: 'It's obviously disappointing. I've never heard anything from them about it.' She recalled being 'minding her own business' when the media 'storm' hit, but she moved on, wishing 'the best' for the Beckham family and thanking the public for support.
No Interaction at Wimbledon
At Wimbledon, photos show David facing the court at all times, with no attempt at conversation. When he turned to take a picture with his mother, Katherine looked the other way. She warmly greeted other guests, including Pointless star Alexander Armstrong, with a hug and kiss on the cheek.
Other celebrities present included Dame Mary Berry, Carol Kirkwood, Sir Cliff Richard, and Sir Mark Rylance. Monday's matches featured UK's Cameron Norrie against Michael Zheng of the US, and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia playing UK's Harriet Dart.
