BBC star and stand-up comedian Luisa Omielan has been rushed to hospital three times after accidentally riding a Lime bike into a brick wall, breaking her nose and sustaining a minor brain injury. The 43-year-old was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the incident.
Luisa Omielan's Health Update
In a recent update video, Omielan told fans: “Just wanted to give an update. Everything is going to be fine, but I have had a minor brain injury and have been diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome and PTSD.” She described the hospital trips as having “knocked her sideways.”
Omielan also shared that her dog Bernie is facing health issues: “My sweet Bernie is also having some health issues at the moment because we are twins and do everything together. She has been an absolute trooper and I am very lucky to have her and love her so much.”
Impact on Career and Recovery
The comedian has been forced to cancel several upcoming gigs and will take a step back while she recovers. “One of the trickiest things is keeping going when life knocks you sideways. It’s just going to take a little time,” she said. “These past few weeks have been incredibly challenging, but I’m grateful that there’s a clear path forward now. I just need to focus on recovery.”
Omielan credited her sister for helping her through exposure therapy: “I’m also very lucky to have my wonderful sister, who’s been gently pushing me through exposure therapy and encouraging me to try things again, one step at a time.”
Gratitude for Support
She expressed gratitude for the kindness of strangers: “A huge shout-out to the kindness of strangers. With everything that’s happened over the last four weeks, every time I’ve needed help, someone has stepped in. It has genuinely restored my faith in people. If you ever wonder whether to offer someone a hand, I’d always rather someone ask than walk past.”
Omielan noted that her Patreon has become her only income during recovery: “I’m not creating much content right now or able to work. Many of you have asked how you can support me while I recover. If you’d like to, my Patreon has been a life line, it is my only income until I’m well enough to plan and deliver shows. I am so grateful to my gang for helping me through this time. Thank you all for the love and kindness, sorry to the audiences and venues I have had to cancel, I am gutted and want to come back ASAP.”
