Series Background

Hamburg Days is based on the book of the same title by Beatles associates Klaus Voormann and Astrid Kirchherr. The series draws from their firsthand accounts of the band's early years. Sue Deeks, head of scripted pre-buy acquisitions at the BBC, said: “Hamburg Days is the fascinating story of how, in the space of two short years, a raw young band from Liverpool honed their music skills in Hamburg, before returning home to become an overnight worldwide success. It is an incredible story, accompanied (of course) by an amazing soundtrack!”

An official air date has yet to be confirmed.

The Beatles' Legacy

The Beatles, formed in 1960 and comprising Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Sir Ringo Starr, remain the best-selling musical act in history, with 18 UK number one singles and 16 UK number one albums. During their Hamburg years, they performed at numerous venues in the city's St Pauli district, most notably the iconic Star-Club.

In addition to this series, four separate films directed by Sir Sam Mendes, each focusing on a different band member, are in development. Paul Mescal will play Sir Paul, Barry Keoghan as Sir Ringo, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
