Bastille drummer Chris Wood has revealed the band turned into "giggling school kids" when they met Steve Coogan backstage at The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013.
Starstruck meeting
Wood recalled the moment they met the comedy icon, who they say shaped their generation's humour. He told the Daily Star: "We generally don't get starstruck, but we turned into a bunch of giggling school kids when we met Steve Coogan, AKA Alan Partridge."
Wood added: "[He's] just basically the sort of basis of our entire generation's humour."
Wholesome interaction
The meeting happened when both were guests on the show. Coogan's daughter was a Bastille fan, making the encounter even more special. Wood said: "We're like anything you want, we'll sign it, as like apparently his like daughter likes the band. We're like, 'we'll send her vinyl, send her anything'. Just yeah, we were we were absolute, yeah, simpering little weirdos..."
Other celebrity encounters
Coogan isn't the only famous face they've met. They also hung out with Jonah Hill, who was hosting Saturday Night Live. Wood described him as an "absolute sweetheart", saying: "He was great, man. Absolute, absolute sweetheart. Again, we just sort of popped in, chatted randomly about stuff because like we were like, like in sort of like neighboring dressing rooms."
Upcoming gig
Bastille are set to headline a gig at Colchester's Castle Park on August 23, with support from Alfie Templeman and Orla Gartland. Wood said: "It's nice. Like I always say, festival season is like my favorite time of year because it's kind of like summer camp. You sort of go away for weekends, catch up with mates and bands, you know, or make new friends, whatever. It's just like it's like quite a sort of sociable kind of kind of kind of time of year. I love it."
