Barbra Streisand has revealed that a tender moment with her husband James Brolin inspired Aerosmith's only number one song, 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing'. The 81-year-old singer and actress shared the story while promoting her new memoir, 'My Name Is Barbra', on The Howard Stern Show.
Streisand recounted that she and Brolin, now 83, were lying in bed when he said, 'I don't want to fall asleep because then I'll miss you.' This pillow talk led her to accept his marriage proposal. The anecdote was later heard by songwriter Diane Warren, who used it to write the hit song.
Warren confirmed the inspiration in a 2016 interview, stating she kept the idea in mind until the film 'Armageddon' came along, where the song fit both the love story and the apocalyptic theme. Released in 1998, 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.
As for her own career, Streisand told Stern she would not star in another film due to the hassle of hair and makeup, but she might direct again. She noted that her focus on personal life may have hindered some ambitions.
