Baby name consultant lists 47 names she hates including Daenerys

A baby name consultant has shared a list of 47 names she dislikes, explaining the reasoning behind her choices. The list includes names inspired by TV and film characters, as well as "overly cute" monikers.

Names inspired by TV characters criticised

In a video, consultant Jessie cautioned parents against naming their children after TV or film characters, particularly those involved in disturbing plotlines. She singled out Daenerys from Game of Thrones, saying she "hates" the name.

She said: "It's representative of a character or a fandom that's inherently dark or gross things have happened to that character. Don't name your baby after like, I literally hate it."

Other names on the list

Jessie also took aim at "overly cute" names, including Molly-Mae Hague's daughter Bambi, as well as Sweetie and Sugar. Names ending with "x", such as Maddox, reminded her of Scrabble tiles, while she claimed the names Maverick and Malachi carry a "curse" with them.

The full list of names to avoid includes Riot, Rowdy, Riker, Ruckus, Ransom, Daenerys, Sweetie, Sugar, Bambi, Hoax, Hex, Maverick, Malachi, Gage, Otto, Otis, Devon, Fisher, Knox, Maddox, Boston, Alani, Ava, Everly, Kinley, Kinsey, McKenzie, Renly, Brinley, Kimberly, Hazely, Bexley, Olivia, Madison, Addison, Sarah, Haley, Eliana, Oakland, Oakley, Ariella, Ariel, Maisie, Sydney, Jessica, Skylar, and Muriel.

Consultant urges parents to follow their own taste

Wrapping up her video, Jessie urged parents to stay true to the baby names they adore, while encouraging them to think carefully about how their decisions might affect their children as they get older.

She said: "Please don't take these to heart. If this, like, bothers you, please. People hate my baby names, hate them every single day. There's no end-all be-all on, like, taste for names. It's fine. It's fine. Don't let people on social media hurt your feelings about baby names."

Baby name predictions for 2027

According to specialists at BabyCenter, parents are opting for names with an 'X-factor', while also taking inspiration from their favourite films and television shows, including Yellowstone, Gilmore Girls and Heated Rivalry.

A statement reads: "Top trend predictions for 2027 include hockey TV dramas, Greek epics, and Western aesthetics. BabyCenter data shows that names are getting longer for boys and girls these days."

Names starting with the letter 'E' are growing for girls, as are names starting with 'J' for boys. Parents are experiencing 'Taylor fatigue' as the name drops sharply in registrations among both boys and girls.
