Ariana Grande's Ponytail Return Signals End of Wicked Era

Ariana Grande made a notable appearance at the Golden Globes First-Time Nominee Celebration in California on Thursday, debuting a return of her signature high ponytail after a two-year hiatus during her role as Glinda in the film adaptation of Wicked.

The pop star, known for her sky-high ponytail, had replaced it with flowing curls and slicked-back buns for her role in the musical. She also dyed her natural chestnut brown hair blonde for the character. At the event, she wore a vintage Christian Dior satin midi dress designed by Yves Saint Laurent in 1959, paired with pointed pumps.

Celebrity hairstylist Alyx Liu styled Grande's blonde hair into a high ponytail with a sleek side parting, though slightly lower than her usual placement. Makeup artist Michael Anthony created a neutral palette with a pale pink matte lip, contoured complexion, and soft long lashes.

Grande originally adopted the ponytail to cover damaged hair from frequent bleaching while starring on the Nickelodeon show Sam & Cat. In a 2014 Facebook post, she explained that her hair was 'so broken' from dyeing it red every other week for four years, leading her to wear wigs and extensions.

The return of the ponytail is seen as a sign of a new era for Grande, who has indicated she will focus on acting for the next few years rather than returning to music and touring.
