Anne-Marie's Motherhood Revelation: 'I Didn't Understand'

In a candid Mother's Day Instagram post shared on Sunday, singer Anne-Marie opened up about how becoming a mother has profoundly altered her view of other parents. The artist, who revealed in May 2024 that she had welcomed her second child, son Forever Sugar, with husband Slowthai, shared a rare glimpse into her life as a mother of two through a series of family photos.

A New Perspective on Motherhood

While the sweet snapshots showed her toddlers learning to walk, drawing, and enjoying playtime with family members, Anne-Marie explained that she didn't truly comprehend the realities of motherhood until she experienced it herself. Alongside the images, she penned an emotional caption that has resonated with parents worldwide.

'This Motherhood S**t Is Next Level'

"Being a mum has made me see other mothers differently," Anne-Marie confessed. "I didn't think it was gonna be this hard and it makes me wanna raise an alcoholic beverage to all the women who did it, all the women who couldn't do it, who didn't wanna do it, who gave up, who pushed through, who lost their minds, lost themselves, found themselves, did it on their own, got help, split up with their partners, lost their babies, had a traumatising birth, an easy birth, working mums, stay at home mums, mums who are depressed, emotional, happy, complete, broken."

The singer continued with raw honesty: "This motherhood s**t is next level. It's an experience I cannot explain and didn't understand until I did it. Big ups to my mum who did. My sister who did it. And myself who is just about doing it. What a beautiful, f*****d up, amazing thing to be a part of. Motherhood."

Navigating Life as a Mother-of-Two

Anne-Marie, who also shares two-year-old daughter Seven with her spouse, has taken a significant break from social media since the start of the year. In a recent post on X, she apologised to her followers for being "distant" while navigating her new reality as a mother of two young children.

She confessed to feeling reluctant about documenting her life online, explaining that she "looks and feels like a wreck most of the time." The singer wrote: "Feeling emotional today. Sorry I been distant. Not sure if you care but I do. I'm working really hard to get this right. Still figuring out how to be a good mum AND write the best album you've heard from me. It's intense. I want to post, but I look and feel like a wreck most of the time."

Embracing Change and Growth

Anne-Marie previously reflected on how her life has transformed in a post marking the end of 2025, accompanied by rare photos of herself with her two children. In a lengthy caption, she shared: "2025 you brought me another little angel in our lives. I am grateful. I have changed ALOT and learned ALOT this year. I am different. And that's amazing."

She detailed the personal evolution she has experienced: "My outlook is different. My personality is different. My face is different. My body is different. And I love it all. What a beautiful thing. Change. Scary but beautiful. I have met wonderful new people this year. I started adhd medication which made me less anxious and feel more confident and free."

The singer expressed optimism about the future, stating: "I am so ready to enter 2026 as a mum of 2 and a whole new artist. I am grateful for everything in my life. I am grateful for you, for Henry the hoover, for peanut butter and for family (and way more stuff but can't be bothered to write it out hahaha)."

Mental Health Advocacy Through Music

Anne-Marie has never shied away from discussing her mental health struggles, including battles with anxiety and OCD. Her most recent single, "DEPRESSED," documented how she handled dark, personal challenges. She released the track in October after an extended period away from the spotlight, having given birth to daughter Seven in February 2024 and welcoming her son just over a year later in May 2025.

Through her honest social media posts and musical expression, Anne-Marie continues to connect with fans by sharing the authentic realities of parenting, personal growth, and mental health management while balancing her career and family life.
