Andi Peters announced the departure of Good Morning Britain director Stuart Earl live on air during the Monday, July 20 episode. The announcement came as hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls returned to screens to deliver the latest headlines.
Andi Peters Reveals Director's Departure
After interviewing Dame Elaine Paige, the hosts handed over to Andi Peters, who was presenting the competition segment live from Wisley in Surrey. Peters soon confirmed that it was his last day working with Stuart Earl, who was leaving the programme after ten years.
"Just imagine, you could be one text away from winning £10,000 every month for ten months. We've only launched it on the television today and it's one of our one week only competitions," Peters said, before getting his own phone out. "Now, Susanna and Ed, interestingly I've got to send one text as well today. It's to our director Stuart. Today's my last day working with him."
Lighthearted Farewell
Peters then quipped: "You two, unfortunately, have got two more days!" He jokingly pretended to type into his phone: "Stuart, love you lots! [It's] been a great ten years. Good luck, Stuart. Thank the lord I'm not doing Tuesday and Wednesday live, so I don't have to work with you."
The star then said to Susanna and Ed: "I'll leave it with you now, bye!" before running away from the camera. A confused Susanna said: "Bye. Yeah, he's running, isn't he?" Turning to Ed, she then asked: "Where is Andi then, tomorrow and Wednesday?" "Don't know," replied Ed, with Susanna agreeing: "I don't know either."
Andi Peters to Be "On Tape"
The camera then panned back to Andi, who confirmed that he would be "on tape". Susanna jokingly concluded: "He's on tape. Probably for the best," before handing over to This Morning stars Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond who previewed their upcoming show.
Much of today's GMB coverage was focused on Andy Burnham's upcoming appointment as prime minister. The UK will welcome its new leader later today, marking the sixth time that this has happened in just over a decade. The ITV stars also reflected on Spain's World Cup win over Argentina, shortly before Piers Morgan made his return to the programme.
