Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared a positive health update ahead of her return to the BBC show later this year. The 35-year-old dancer, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, said she is 'doing really, really well' following her latest mastectomy in November.
Speaking to ITV News, Dowden said being back on the dance floor means more to her than ever. 'After having your dancing taken away from you, you just enjoy every second and every beat on that dance floor,' she said. The dancer from Caerphilly, Wales, will tour with fellow pro Carlos Gu in the second instalment of their 'deep and personal' show, Reborn.
Dowden revealed that returning to dance has helped restore her confidence after she nearly gave up following her diagnosis. 'For me, it's when I felt like me again after everything I've been through,' she said, crediting Gu and her husband for encouraging her to continue. Gu praised his friend, saying, 'The dancer Amy is back, finally back, and she's such a talent.'
Dowden was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 after finding a lump before her honeymoon. She underwent chemotherapy, two mastectomies, and announced in February 2024 that she is in remission with 'no evidence of disease'. She will return to Strictly alongside professionals including Carlos Gu and 2024 champion Dianne Buswell.
